Solar Power For Homes - Use Solar Energy to Reduce Home Electricity Bills

Solar power for homes is fast becoming a standard requirement for house buyers. Many people are becoming more aware of environmental issues such as global warming, pollution, rising energy cost etc. We are more conscious on how we use limited resources such as energy. One of the largest expenses in owning a house is the electricity bills. One solution that has been proven to reduce power consumption at home is with renewable energy concept such as solar. How does a home solar technology works? This article will provide some useful information of the subject.

The idea of using solar power for homes is quite simple. The system uses solar array to harness the sun energy and convert it into usable electricity. Solar arrays are made from solar cells soldered together in series. Solar cell or Photovoltaic (PV) is a semiconductor element and is capable of creating an electric current when exposed to sun light. The electricity generated by the array can be diverted into a batteries bank through a charge controller. The function of the charge controller is to regulate the batteries charging process and to restrict any current back flow to the array. Since a battery can only store Direct Current (DC), an inverter would have to be used to change DC to Alternate Current (AC). AC is used to run almost all of the electrical appliances in our household.

The cost of using solar power for homes is relatively cheap nowadays. It used to be very expensive to setup a home solar energy system and it will take decades to recoup our initial investment. With new manufacturing process, the cost of solar cells has drop substantially. Using renewable energy for our homes has become more practical.
